O Canada

Montreal

Friends, I am officially settled into Montreal. Today was actually much less stressful than I had thought it would  be. Woke up around 9:30, having had one of the most restful nights in a long time at our hotel. Odd, right? Had breakfast with Dad at a place called Chez Cora: waffles topped with yogurt and about 6 different types of fruit. Couldn’t have asked for a better meal to start my semester in Canada.

Moved in around 11 and everything went smoothly. Almost all of us (by all I mean the total of 10 people up here this semester from Champlain) got here right around 11, so it was fun settling in sort of all at the same time.

Turns out my power supply on my desktop is messed up, so currently I’m workin on my laptop until I get a new PSU, but it’s all good. Orientation started at 3:30 and we went over some basic stuff, had some questions answered by Wesnide. Had some free dinner from a chicken place, so I ended up having cole slaw, bread, rice and french fries for dinner. Either way…free.

Just got back for the night after being convinced to go out, as it is our first night here (well…second for me, but tonight’s the first night of having been moved in). Went to a quiet pub and I had a few glasses of water. Unfortunately it’s not really financially feasible to go out and have a beer without me having a job. Not important though. I’m super amped to be here, and I’d like to go into more detail but orientation continues nice and early tomorrow morning and I’m sure I’ll have plenty more to say tomorrow night.

Well, almost packed. Got some more to do in the A.M. when I wake up, but for now I’m posting this and going to sleep.
I’ll be working on a custom site design throughout the coming weeks and months, but for now I’m using this simple (yet rather elegant) theme put together Michael Tyson (link at bottom of page).

Tomorrow is the tentative departure date, depending on the weather. If not, Thursday morning it will be. Moving in to the UQAM dorms on Friday morning, orientation all weekend, classes starting Monday. Lots of new things all at once.

My list of possessions is currently at 71, and I’m just about done, I think. Here’s to minimalists.
